Have A Sloped Yard? How To Make Sure You Don't Experience A Huge Landslide

If you live on the edge of a big hillside or mountain, you may have the constant fear that if you get too much rain that your house will slide off of it. Rather than packing up your tings and moving because of your vast slope, there are a few things that you can do to prevent a huge landslide from happening. From slope stabilization to drainage solutions, this article will list three ways that you can protect your house and property form a disaster. Ready to learn more? If so, then read on.

Have Your Slope Stabilized

One of the first things that you will want to do is have the slope stabilized. During this process, a slope stabilization company will come out to your house, pack down the ground with a big machine so that the dirt doesn't slide and then they will lay a material over the top of the soil. This material will help prevent the rocks and soil from moving in the case of a small earthquake or any other sort of impact.

Get a Retaining Wall

After your slope has been stabilized, they will usually recommend that you have a retaining wall installed. A retaining wall is what they put at the bottom of the slope as an added barrier to prevent things from sliding underneath. For instance, although your hill is stabilized, an earthquake or rainstorm might disrupt the soil which can push it down. When you have a retaining wall, it will keep the soil intact and act as a barrier so that it doesn't slide all over the place.

Get a Drainage Solution

Another thing that you will need is some sort of drainage solution to move water away from the slope in the case of a big rainstorm. For instance, you can have a drainage system installed to pump water away from your house and underneath the slope so that it doesn't create a landslide or a mudslide. Depending on how big your property is, the engineer may have to create a large drainage system to cover all of the square footage.

Although your property may be in a prime spot and you may have a beautiful view, it can be scary to live on a sloped lot because of landslides. To keep your lot intact, keep these things in mind and talk to an engineer about what you should do.
